So you’ve decided to get off the beaten track and recharge your batteries in the true heart of Siberia? The tiny village of Bolshiye Koty might be just the right destination for you. Peaceful, revitalizing, authentic. It is reachable only by boat or a 20-kilometer walk along the fabulous Baikal shore and has an irresistible charm of its own, with free-roaming cows and horses being the only traffic to see and the sound of waves the only noise to disturb you at night.

Located at the hill overlooking the lake, Lesnaya 7 Hostel with its eco-friendly wooden cabins and a warm, laid-back atmosphere is a perfect fit for its tranquil surroundings. We are open from the end of May till the end of September to provide you with the comfort of our six double rooms and hot showers.

How to get from Irkutsk:

By ferry

There are ferries going to Bolshie Koty from Irkutsk and from Listvyanka. Tickets are available at www.vsrp.ru or at the ticket office in Irkutsk (Marshala Zhukova street, 98-g).
To get to Listvyanka you should get on a minibus departing from the central bus station (see map below). It’s a 1 hour trip with minibuses are running all day long.

Regular Ferry Schedule:
July and August: daily.
June and September: every day except Monday and Thursday.Departure from Irkutsk at 11-30 and from Listvyanka at 12.30. Navigation starts at the end of May and stops at the end of September.

On foot

The hike takes about 4-6 hours (18 km). Before hiking to Bolshie Koty you have to obtain a National Park permit. The office is located at Gorkogo street, 2, on the right side of the main road from Irkutsk. If costs 100 rub per person a day.

As you’ve reached Bolshie Koty village, go along the shore line from the ferry pier. The first street on your left is Lesnaya. Keep walking until you see Lesnaya 7 sign on the left (white on blue). You are there!
